My Writing

 my words

My writing has evolved over the decades as I’ve explored different types of writing. I began with mini-shorts, then poetry, lyrics, a novel at thirteen, short stories in my twenties followed by screenplays, monologues for actors, and more recently, essays about social issues.

Immersing myself in fiction provided me with the escapism I desperately needed to get through the day after my mother died when I was four. Besides, my mother, an avid reader and subscriber to Reader’s Digest (the fancy embossed hardcover ones), shared her love of the written word by teaching me how to read. Thus, it’s not a stretch to understand that I would fall in love with reading after she was gone.

The Emotional Abyss

A non-fiction creative mix of autobiography, poetry, and self-help.

The Emotional Abyss book contains personal stories, written when I was between the ages of 11 and 18.

The style is a creative non-fiction mix of stories told in the form of poetry, lyrics, and journal entries.

One of the reasons that I wrote the book was to show readers how writing can be a safe place to reflect on common, confusing & emotionally charged events—like heartbreak & loss.

Growing up, I felt like I had two personalities: Miss Insecurity & Miss Confident. And who showed up depended on my social & home environment. It was a constant struggle. I never knew where I belonged... Always trying to figure out who I was by asking myself, "Who am I, really?" Miss Insecurity or Miss Confident?

Writing was my saving grace. My aim is to share that with readers.

The Emotional Abyss is not the typical poetry, autobiography, nor compilation. Instead, it serves as a living time capsule—an unique glimpse into the psyche of a popular, creative, incredibly insecure, self-loathing teenage girl—as she fumbles through life and matures into a young woman.

On the surface, The Emotional Abyss is full of indulgent teenage ramblings, and once you dive in, insight and hope emerge.
